Diversity vs Unity (an important message for today's Saints).

It's funny how seeing things while out-and-about, or things encountered online, can trigger a bunch of thoughts.

West Valley City Logo - UNITY-PRIDE-PROGRESS

So, remember how the Leftist portion of the government (which is actually most government these days), used to talk about DIVERSITY?   I think that when they say Unity it is actually a social use of the word Diverse.

The prefix di- means "two," "twice," or "double"1234. It is used in loanwords from Greek24, in chemistry15, and in the formation of compound words2. It is sometimes shortened from dis4 or used instead of bis-5.     https://www.thefreedictionary.com/di-

di·verse
[dəˈvərs, dīˈvərs, ˈdīˌvərs]
ADJECTIVE
  1. showing a great deal of variety; very different

Other similar words which came from Diverse, are Division, Divorce, Different (in German, W is pronounced like V, and V is pronounced like F, so all those letters can have a shared meaning).  These words teach us that they are not one anymore but two, and two does not always hold hands, metaphorically speaking, when it comes to words like divide, division, and divorce!

It's good to be aware of words (or prefixes/suffixes) and their underlying meanings.  Here are more "twos":

dilute

duo

duet

duplet or duplex

dya

twain

tu

* see also my p.s. at the bottom

Two in:

French:  deux

Portuguese:  duas

Spanish:  dos

Italian:  due

Latin:  duo

German:  zwei (pronounced similar to svei)

Greek:  δύο  (dyo)

I remember a class I took long ago, about language.  The teacher said that the main roots of the English language are:  German, Latin, and Greek.  The class had a book to help us students understand the roots, prefixes, and suffixes in English, divided up into Germanic roots, Latin roots, and Greek roots.

Adjective

Middle English twa, two, from Old English twā (feminine & neuter); akin to Old English twēgen two (masculine),  (neuter), Old High German zwēne

Latin duo

Greek dyo

Some "two" words have a negative connotation, and others have a more positive connotation:  Example Duet vs. Divorce.   Maybe DU is more positive than DI.  I haven't looked into that deeply enough.  I am not an academically trained linguist.

Let's contrast that with universe / university / UNITY which comes from UNI meaning One, or Oneness.  The English word "any" is actually similar to "uni-".  It's interesting that the word in Hebrew for "I" (which I is me and is one person), is "ani" אני.

One in:

French:  un/ une

Portuguese:  um/ uma

Spanish:  uno/ una

Italian:  uno/ una

Latin:  unas

German:  eines, ein/ eine  (this word is the most similar to "any" or Hebrew "ani").

Greek:  ένας (énas)

Words like:  Unicycle, Unicorn (uni-horn), unit, universe, university, unite, united, union, uning.  Now, here's an interesting word:  Undo.  It kind of looks like a one-two (un is one, do is two) word, but it has a taking apart, disassembling meaning to it, huh.

Diversity can be good because it can be interesting (taking upon the meaning, variety).  But too much variety can be confusing because of lack of continuity, too much change, and lack of stability, too spread out, not having a stable core.

When it comes to choosing ice cream, diversity doesn't matter if you are at the service counter and each person can pick their favorite flavor for his or her ice cream cone.  It becomes an expensive problem though if you have to buy a gallon or more for each flavor to satisfy a group of ten or more people.  Life is so much more complex and important than an ice cream cone!

Acceptance of diversity is good so as to keep people from warring with each other.

However, diversity can be used as a weapon to dilute (weaken or divide) peoples' power, moral values, and allegiance. "Divide and Conquer."  This is the problem with today's "politically correct" media and education.  Good values and allegiance are actually being eroded away with an every more frightening speed.

In the scriptures, the Lord God (Adonai/Jehovah - Elohim) encourages unity based upon HIS values.

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 (famous Jewish prayer)

aHear, O Israel: The Lord our God is bONE Lord:

And thou shalt alove the Lord thy God with all thine bheart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy cmight.

John 17:11 Jesus and the Father were one and wanted the disciples to be one with him:  ... Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be bone, as we are.

1 Corinthians 8: 6

But to us there is but one aGod, the bFather, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one cLord Jesus Christ, by whom are dall things, and we by him.

D&C 38: 27 (I actually urge you all to read this section, there are some important gems in there)

27 Behold, this I have given unto you as a parable, and it is even as I am. I say unto you, be aONE; and if ye are not one ye are not mine.

John 10: 16

16 And aother bsheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be cone fold, and one shepherd.

However, in the Last Days, the apostacy will occur.  Ahem, it is actually occurring as we speak.  It is an apostacy among all faiths, all nations, all peoples.

2 Thessalonians 2: 3-4

Let no man deceive you by any means: afor that day shall not come, except there come a bfalling away first, and that cman of dsin be revealed, the son of perdition;

Who aopposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

2 Timothy 3: 1-9, 13

This know also, that in the alast days perilous btimes shall come.

For men shall be lovers of their own selves, acovetous, boasters, bproud, blasphemers, cdisobedient to parents, dunthankful, unholy,

Without anatural baffectionctrucebreakersdfalse accuserseincontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

aTraitorsbheadychighminded, lovers of dpleasures more than lovers of God;

Having a aform of godliness, but bdenying the power thereof: from such turn away.

For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly awomen laden with sins, led away with divers blusts,

Ever alearning, and never able to come to the bknowledge of the ctruth.

Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also aresist the truth: men of bcorrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

But they shall proceed no further: for their afolly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.

13 But evil men and aseducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

2 Timothy 3: 14-16

14 But acontinue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

15 And that from a achild thou hast known the holy bscriptures, which are able to make thee cwise unto dsalvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

16 aAll bscripture is given by cinspiration of God, and is dprofitable for edoctrine, for freproof, for correction, for ginstruction in hrighteousness:

Eventually in a tipping point, wherein people will not stand anymore for the filth of the world, they do a division, and even an Exodus, so that they can unite elsewhere in peace amongst themselves and live by righteous principles.  It's a failure of the world's (Mammon's, Devil's) version of "diversity and unity."

2 Nephi 30:10

10 For the atime speedily cometh that the Lord God shall cause a great bdivision among the people, and the wicked will he cdestroy; and he will dspare his people, yea, even if it so be that he must edestroy the wicked by fire.

The destruction will be because of refusal by {wicked} people to repent.  There are many reasons and actions of what constitutes "wicked:"  Destruction of the Lord's creation--the human, plant, and animal genome, and the environment; moral and ethical wickedness; and unauthorized-by-the-Lord, disunifying hatred or disinterest/indifference in the suffering of their fellowman or their welfare.  I'm talking about the Lord's definitions outlined in scripture, not Mammon's, of course.

Amen.

p.s. Here are some other interesting D's in linguistics that I noticed:

D - T or D-Th combo which to me appears to be indicative of a restrictiveness, dryness, or ending/death of some kind.  In Hebrew the last letter of their alphabet is the Tav, which in pictograph is an X or a Cross.   This is where we get our little "t" and he certainly did die on the Cross, because that was his prophecied "end."

Die

Diet (a restrictive eating pattern)

Death

Dearth (scarcity, lack; may be used in conjuction with famine)

Desert

Dessert (which if it's an abundance of those high sugar and fat versions of dessert, it will lead to a diet, disease, or death).

In Hebrew, religious courts are called Beit Din = Beit (house of) Din (judgment).

p.p.s.  In the future I may do another post about Diversity.  Obviously, diversity is in nature, seeing the different colors of flesh and different varieties of plant and animal life.  Modern Society has defined diversity differently than God, and actually in some respects is destroying Unity with God and each other because of sins being introduced.
